COVID19 has largely impacted how patients seek cancer care. The increase in the spread of the virus has made cancer patients apprehensive of visiting a healthcare centre and avail timely treatment.
On the occasion of World Cancer Day 2022, well-known Indian news publication ‘Hindustan Times’ discussed the lack of quality cancer care in Government hospitals in Delhi NCR.
Dr Mandeep Singh Malhotra, a leading oncologist at the CK Birla Hospital offers his opinion on the issue. He says, “According to a study, there has been a drop of nearly 54% new cancer patients between March-May 2020.” This highlights the fear and delay in seeking accurate cancer care by patients.
