It is generally recommended to follow your healthcare provider’s instructions regarding food and drink intake before an ultrasound during pregnancy. In most cases, you are advised to drink plenty of water before an ultrasound to help with image clarity, especially for abdominal ultrasounds. However, whether or not you should have orange juice before the procedure depends on the type of ultrasound being performed.

  • For a standard abdominal ultrasound: You may be asked to have a full bladder, but orange juice is not typically recommended unless specified by your doctor.

  • For a transvaginal ultrasound: You may be instructed not to eat or drink anything beforehand.

In some cases, if the ultrasound is for checking blood sugar levels or monitoring gestational diabetes, your doctor may recommend drinking orange juice to help stimulate insulin production. Always consult your healthcare provider for specific instructions to ensure accurate results.
