Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) spreads primarily through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It can also spread by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching the mouth, nose, or eyes. Close contact, such as hugging or shaking hands with an infected individual, increases the risk of transmission. Additionally, HMPV can survive on surfaces for several hours, making it easier to contract the virus in crowded or poorly sanitized environments. Doctors recommend practicing good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, wearing masks, and avoiding close contact with sick individuals to reduce the spread of HMPV.
