Menstruation and menstrual cramps vary from one woman to the other, as do their symptoms. Mensuration is a natural bleeding process that every woman goes through once a month. Menstrual cramps are the pains that occur before and during your period, and they can be mild or severe depending on the person. 

Wondering why periods give cramps?

The contractions of the uterine muscle are triggered by hormones like prostaglandins, which are directly linked to inflammation and severe pain.  If the pain is higher it simply means there are higher levels of prostaglandins.

Travelling with extreme pain might be challenging, but there are several things you can do to reduce throbbing period cramps:

  • Avoid unhealthy junk foods like alcohol, carbonated beverages and fatty foods
  • Keep yourself hydrated at all times
  • Take over-the-counter medicines (as per suggestion)
  • Focus on deep inhaling and exhaling
