What is auto immunity and how does it work?
Share
Autoimmunity occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s healthy cells, thinking they are harmful invaders. Normally, the immune system defends against infections and diseases. However, in autoimmune disorders, it produces antibodies that target the body’s own tissues, leading to chronic inflammation and damage. Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and type 1 diabetes are examples of autoimmune diseases. The exact cause is unknown, but genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors play a role. While there is no cure, treatments like immunosuppressants, anti-inflammatory medications, and lifestyle changes help manage symptoms and reduce immune system overactivity.
