Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that involves the use of implants in order to increase the size of the breasts. Plastic surgeons use silicone-based implants and surgically place them under the breast tissue to achieve desired results. Breast augmentation is also reconstructive surgery for women who experience changes in their breasts due to the treatment of various conditions such as cancer and benign tumours.

You are a good candidate for breast augmentation if:

• You are physically fit
• You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
• You have fully developed breasts
• Your breasts are asymmetrical

Like any other surgery, few risks and complications are associated with breast augmentation. These include:

• Scarring of tissue
• Pain
• Infection
• Changes in the sensation of nipple and breast
• Implant position changes
• Implant rupture
