When this electrical signalling is disrupted, causing the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly, the condition is called arrhythmia.

  • Heart block: A delay or interruption in electrical signals as they travel from the upper to the lower chambers of the heart.

Depending on the cause, bradycardia may require a pacemaker to keep the heart beating at a healthy pace.

  • Irregular Heartbeats
  • Premature atrial contractions (PACs) are extra, early heartbeats that originate in the atria, often felt as a skipped beat.
  • Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are extra, early heartbeats that originate in the ventricles, felt as a flutter or thud.

Arrhythmia Treatment Options

The treatment depends on what type of arrhythmia you have, what is causing it, your symptoms, and how serious it is. Based on your condition, a cardiologist may suggest one or more of the following treatment options:

  • Medication

  • Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD)
