Breast cancer is the number one cancer among Indian women and accounts for 14% of all cancers in women. In urban areas, 1 in 22 women is likely to develop breast cancer during her lifetime. Of these 1 in 2 may not survive.

One of the biggest reasons for the high mortality rates is a late diagnosis which is primarily due to lack of awareness and the absence of proper breast cancer screening programme. Majority of breast cancers are diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage.

The Breast Centre at the CK Birla Hospital offers a dedicated and comprehensive range of breast health services with a focus on holistic health. It provides an individualised approach towards breast health including breast cancer prevention and screening, diagnostics, treatment (surgeries, reconstruction and chemotherapy) and rehabilitation & counselling. Our team of breast cancer experts and compassionate clinical staff combined with the state-of-the-art facility ensures the best possible experience for our patients.

We have vast experience in breast cancer resection with neo breast (Breast formation post-cancer removal – either immediately or after a certain time period), breast conservation surgery with sentinel lymph node biopsy, oncoplastic breast preservation surgery, nipple-sparing/skin-sparing mastectomy with primary breast reconstruction and modified radical mastectomy with reconstruction. The reconstructive procedure, which is either autologous (using the tissue from the patient’s body itself including microvascular free tissue transfer) or implant-based, is decided as per standard guidelines. We are also one of the best centres for secondary breast reconstruction (cancer-free women who want to have their breast back).

Our hospital offers a comprehensive program for breast cancer prevention. We also offer an HBOC service (service for identifying and preventing hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome) due to the BRCA gene. We also offer corrective surgeries for congenital breast malformations and surgeries for granulomatous breast diseases.

If you or your loved one is at risk of having breast cancer or has breast cancer, or any other breast problem, the experts at the CK Birla Hospital’s Breast Centre should be your chosen partner for diagnosing and treating your type of breast cancer.

Our Services

Prevention, lowering your risk and Screening

India is facing a challenging situation due to a significant increase in incidence and mortality rate due to breast cancer during the last few years. The main reasons for this observed hike in mortality is due to lack of adequate breast cancer screening, diagnosis of disease at advanced stage and unavailability of appropriate medical facilities.
With a approach, our aim is to counsel women to make lifestyle modifications which can help prevent breast cancer and identify women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer. We offer genomic testing and analysis (presence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations). However, having a copy of mutated gene does not mean that you will certainly get breast cancer. The surgeons at the Breast Centre are best equipped to advice you on the way forward.
The Breast Centre provides screening for early detection of breast cancer for women between the ages of 25 – 80 years of age.We guide women to conduct Breast self-examination (BSE) and offer Clinical breast examination (CBE) and Tactile Breast Examination (TBE) to look for early signs of breast cancer. TBE uses the enhanced touch of visually impaired women who have been specially trained to conduct a breast exam. This is done under the supervision of our breast experts
The clinical and medical tactile breast examination is complemented by radiology in the form of Ultrasound for women below 40 years and a mammogram above the age of 40 years. Our digital mammogram facility ensures clear and sharp images, designed to suit the natural contours of the breast with superior ergonomics. We also provide software-assisted breast density assessment.
We also offer breast reduction surgeries as that can not only improve the lifestyle in some cases but also reduce the amount of breast tissue that could develop cancer.
