What is Fissure?

An anal fissure is a small cut or tear in the thin, moist tissue (mucosa) that lines the anus or in the lining of the anal opening. It may lead to itching, pain, and bleed while making bowel movements. An anal fissure may occur when you pass hard stools. It is common for infants because they tend to pass hard stools, although it may affect people of any age. Normally, it may get healed within 4-6 weeks. If does not recover within 2 months, patients are required to visit the doctor immediately and doctor may prescribe surgery or other medical treatments. Medication may temporarily relief you from the pain whereas surgery will cure the disease of the root.

When To Consult The Doctor For Anal Fissure Treatment?

You should see a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms:

Persistent pain: The pain doesn't improve after a week or two, even with home care.
Significant or heavy bleeding: Bleeding occurs with every bowel movement or is large in amount.
Visible changes: You notice a lump, persistent swelling, or a discharge from the anus.
Worsening symptoms: Discomfort is interfering with your daily activities.
Recurring symptoms: The fissure keeps returning, suggesting it might be becoming chronic.
Underlying conditions: You have other health issues or a history of Crohn's disease, which could indicate another cause for the fissure.
